I’m taking a week off next week and looking for a weekend getaway, if possible, thats super cheap for my teenage daughter and I. We have passports and are willing to travel. We enjoy pools and chillaxin! My budget is around $2000, but I’d like to keep it closer to $1k. Our dates are August 25th -31st…Do you have any recommendations?
Mommy on a Budget
Dear Mommy on a Budget,
First, let me say how awesome you are for taking your daughter on a nice getaway before she goes back to school. Now let’s get right to it! My favorite sites for those that are open to traveling anywhere, within a budget of course, are Kayak Explore & Google Flights. With both of these sites you are able to put in your departure location and time frame, while leaving the destination blank. They do all the calculating for you and show a wide range of countries/states/cities that you can go to in your budget.
These are the results from Kayak Explore:
From this map what stood out to me was the grat price for Cabo($327) & Panama ($383). Purchasing 2 tickets, however, will put you close to your overall budget. So lets keep searching.
Here are the results from Google Flights:
There seems to be a few more options. From Dallas at just $107RT to Managua, Nicaragua at $417RT. However, if you really want to give the teenager something to talk about when she gets back to school, take her to Alaska for $278RT! Another great option is Vancouver for $283RT.
Alaska and Vancouver provide plenty of opportunities to “chillax,” however the weather in Alaska in late August is hardly pool weather, rainy and 60s. Vancouver, on the other hand, is currently experiencing sunny weather in the 70s. You can check out the beaches and/or get laps in at Vancouver’s very popular outdoor pools. Especially the salt water pool at Kits Beach.
Here are some other great recommendations on how to spend time in Vancouver:
As for lodging in Vancouver, there are a number of Airbnb options under $100/night. Don’t forget to use my Airbnb credit! Here are a few of my favorites that are close to public transport which is a must:
I sure hope this vacation is refreshing and full of excitement. Don’t hesitate to reach out with more questions!
