Took My Husband to Vegas for Father’s Day…My Flight Cost $5.60
Sometimes you don’t need a long vacation to make a big memory.
For Father’s Day, my husband and I took a quick overnight trip to Las Vegas for cocktails, great food, and some much-needed time together and, of course, I used every points and perks trick I could along the way.
My Flight Cost Just $5.60 Each Way
One of my favorite travel perks is the Southwest Companion Pass, and this trip is exactly why. Since I’m my husband’s designated companion, I flew for just $5.60 each way in taxes and fees while I booked his flight as usual. The Companion Pass allows your companion to fly with you on both paid and award tickets for only the taxes and fees, making it one of the most valuable perks in domestic travel.
Keep an eye on your inbox because I’ll be sending a dedicated newsletter soon on my favorite ways to earn the Companion Pass and maximize it for family travel.
A Luxury Vegas Hotel for Just 13,000 Points
Since we were only staying one night, I wanted something special. I booked the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas through a premium travel portal for 13,000 points from THIS CARD instead of paying the approximately $275 cash rate, including resort fees. I know you’ve heard that booking through travel partners is not the best redemption but with the Chase Points Boost, you can get a lot of value! Always comparison shop.
The real magic was in the extras. Our booking included:
🥂 $100 property credit
☕ $60 breakfast credit
I used the property credit for brunch and cocktails because if you’re going to Vegas for Father’s Day, you have to celebrate properly.
It felt like a mini luxury getaway without the luxury price tag.
Uber Rides? Covered.
Another little win came from the PAZE promotion that I’ve been talking about over on Instagram. PAZE is new payment platform, similar to Apple Pay, Paypal, etc.
The offer was simple: Spend $10, get $10 back.
I stacked multiple offers and converted those savings into $100 worth of Uber credits, which helped cover our rides around Vegas.
If you haven’t been following me on Instagram, make sure you do because I often share these deals as soon as I find them.
One quick update: Newegg is no longer allowing gift card purchases to qualify for this promotion, so that loophole appears to be closed. However, if you activate PAZE in the Chase app, you can add cards from other banks, including Bank of America, Capital One and Citi.
And Yes… I Actually Paid for Dinner
I know. Shocking. 😂 Normally, I’m using dining perks to offset restaurant costs, including:
• Resy dining credits
• OpenTable dining credits that come with one of my premium travel cards
These credits have saved me hundreds over the years on meals I was already planning to enjoy but I’m currently fresh out of both.
So for Father’s Day dinner, I happily paid cash and enjoyed every second of it because here’s my philosophy:
I use points to fly.
I use points for hotels.
I use credits whenever possible.
And then I splurge on the moments that matter.
