Booking Business Class for Four People: Turkiye & Tunisia

Turkish Airlines Business Class 787-9…

It’s no secret that I STAN for Turkish Airlines Business Class. It’s probably because I love food and they have “flying chefs” aboard to make the best food in the sky! This time, we got an opportunity to fly in the 787 which provides much more privacy than the 777. Our home airport is LAX but we had to get creative in order to score 4 business class seats and bring my mother-in-law along. So I kept my eyes peeled for different cities that offered 4 seats. Voila, Detroit had exactly 4 seats available via Aeroplan(Air Canada), a partner of Turkish airlines and an AMEX transfer partner. I transferred a total of 280,000 points or 70k points each to Aeroplan to book our flights from DTW to IST(Istanbul).

In hindsight, I would have booked directly through to Cappadocia, as we later added that leg(IST-ASR) for 10,000 Turkish miles each, in business class. Points we transferred from Capital One that can we earned via our Venture, which is currently offering 75,000 points + a $250 Travel Credit.

We flew Turkish Business Class again from Istanbul to Tunis, Tunisia. This time, we had what is referred to as a European Business Class, where the middle seat is blocked off. We used a combination of Capital One and AMEX points, transferred to Aeroplan to book Turkish Airlines flights. The total for 4 business class seats, 80k points. Steep, but business class was the only option available.

Air France Business Class …

We flew home from Tunis via Paris on Air France. The short flight to Paris was on the A321 and the flight back to the US, was on an A350. We transferred 225,000 points from AMEX & Chase to Air France’s Flying Blue for 4 business class tickets from Tunis to Phoenix. That came out to be about 56,000 points per person for business class from AFRICA! I have to say, that’s pretty great.

The flight home from Phoenix was on Southwest and since I have the companion pass, we only purchased 2 seats for about 9,000 points & used our AMEX Platinum incidental credits to cover a cash seat. Score! I hope this is a reminder that being flexible, creative and thinking outside of the box can help you maximize your points!
