Need Extra Money for Travel? Give Focus Groups a Try!

The truth is, most of us don’t have an endless supply of discretionary income to use for traveling the world. That doesn’t mean that we can’t check the seat cushions of the internet and find loose change! In fact, my go-to for padding my travel account is to participate in focus groups.

Otherwise known as market research, focus groups are simply small gatherings of people commissioned by a company to find your opinions of products and services. So basically, you get paid to talk about the stuff that you like or dislike. Sounds easy, right? It is! You can make anywhere form $30 – $400(some pay more for entire days), for having a lot to say. Often times, you don’t even have to leave the house because online and telephone interviews are offered.

Sooooo, how do you get started? The best way, I think, is to go to Greenbook and search for market research companies in your city. Then go sign up for each company’s database, that way you’ll be emailed as soon as a new study comes up. If you have children, they can get involved too! There are tons of focus groups for the babies, mostly in the form of taste and play tests.
